E. W. Browne

Edmund William Browne was born and raised at Wayland in Norfolk.  In 1944 he married Audrey Eleanor Isobel Carr of 4 Sefton Road, Formby.  He served in the RAF with 61 Squadron and was one of the 7-man crew who were all killed on 16th March 1945 when their Lancaster (serial number RF176) was shot down by night fighters during a mission to bomb the town of Wurzburg.  He was 23 and left a widow and a daughter born a few months after he was killed.  He is buried in Durnbach War Cemetery, Bayern, Germany, where his gravestone bears the words “Jesus called a little child to Him”.
